LIAM G | TORONTO HEADSHOT PHOTOGRAPHER
I am so pumped to be delivering Liam and his dad this gallery. Liam’s dad contacted me when they were looking for a Toronto Headshot Photographer and found me on Instagram. We chatted about Packages and Pricing and availability and they decided to move forward with the session. His dad sent me a few photos of Liam before our session, just from his phone, so I already knew he was a cutie. But, I had no idea his headshots would turn out like they did.
DURING OUR SESSION
Liam was so chatty during his session and he challenged me to a few races (I lost) in between locations. You may not believe he’s only 6, but it’s like he was born for the acting and modeling industry. He had so much stamina, for a child of any age, let alone 6. He took the direction very well, and was a pleasure to work with.
When you’re working with young children as a headshot Photographer, It’s important to give them frequent breaks. After all, even the IPA and Actra mandates this. The current rules state that after every 45 minutes of filming they need a 10 minute break for the 6-11 age group. I love coming up with creative ways to keep the kids engaged too. Liam was able to keep his focus for a longer period of time than other kids his age, Since I started as a child and family photographer, kids don’t normally have to be in front of the camera in those circumstances as when they are getting headshots. When it’s headshots, it’s only them in front of the camera, so it’s an important reminder. I had to remind myself of his age and to ask him if he needed a drink or a break.
I have said it many times before, it’s beneficial for kids and families to work with someone who has experience with kids. Adults are a bit easier to work with and can be less choosey when selecting a headshot photographer. But working with kids is special, and this is an adult industry. Kids should be treated with respect and care. After all, this is the only industry in North America that children are allowed to “work”. My own kids have worked with several very talented Artists, Photographers, Directors and others on set, that you could tell had no experience with minors or minors. It showed. It doesn’t matter what their previous work looks like, if they don’t have a friendly manner and ease around children, they shouldn’t be working with them. You know a great Director or Photographer within the first minute of meeting them.
